After being introduced to the billboard/sign industry in 1988 by his father Tevis, Kevin Johnston established Johnston Outdoor Contracting in 1998 with a vision of expanding on the foundational skills his father had taught him.

When Kevin first started out as a teenager, he was merely helping his father by learning the craft of hand painting billboards and did so across the southeast and as far west as Texas. By his early twenties, Kevin began contracting and overseeing the larger projects that came through the company and had the opportunity to work with several talented billboard artists who, upon seeing the quality of his work, gave him the much needed confidence to handle any job no matter the difficulty.

When the Olympics came to Atlanta in 1996, Kevin and Tevis worked together installing a wide breadth of signage around the city. This provided him with the invaluable experience of working with both national and international sponsors as well as the opportunity to learn the intricacies of such large scale jobs.

In 1998 Kevin felt it was time to branch out by starting Johnston Outdoor Contracting. Through his hard work, dedication and passion for his craft, he was able to persuade some of the biggest outdoor advertising companies in Atlanta to give him a shot at managing their billboard/media installations. Realizing the opportunity he was given, Kevin took full advantage by applying all the knowledge and attention to detail he learned from his father and exceeded the client's expectations by providing an unparalleled quality of work, professionalism and fast turnaround at extremely competitive prices.

By 2002, with Johnston Outdoor firmly grounded in the Atlanta market, Johnston Outdoor was presented with yet another opportunity; working in Puerto Rico. After assessing the island's market and it's potential, Kevin seized the chance to expand by creating Johnston Outdoor Contracting of Puerto Rico based out of San Juan. Since that time a strong client base and reputation within Puerto Rico's outdoor advertising community has been developed. By covering the entire island, installing everything from building wraps to illuminated channel letters to complicated 3-D billboard props, Johnston Outdoor has found a second home in Puerto Rico and continues it's growth to this day.

Johnston Outdoor is constantly branching out into different areas of creative sign installation by keeping pace with the latest methodology, materials and technology in an effort to better offer their client base the options needed to fulfill every request.

ATLANTA FALCONS • August 2015

This is an installation for the Atlanta Falcons that we did at the Ga Dome for the upcoming football season. We wrapped (24) 10 ft. concrete pillars on the lower concourse with vinyl adhesive to replicate large Coke cans.

This was an installation that we did for the award winning television series "The Amazing Race". We installed a giant 60'x60' 3 sided billboard that was used in the final challenge as the contestants raced towards the finish line. The season finale and final
destination was in Atlanta as they finished up their race around the world.

To achieve the goal of Outback's ad campaign, we fabricated and installed a system to make the billboard appear as though the grill was actually smoking. The effect was such a success, local passersby called 911 to report a fire on the structure.

In 2010 we helped Kern Studios fabricate, install and regularly update the copy on the Atlanta Braves' signature 45 ft. Chick-Fil-A cow on the upper pavilion at Turner Field. In 2017 we removed and help transport the entire structure to the new Braves' Sun Trust Park.
